Step back into the splendour and excitement of the Victorian era in the newly refurbished Tides Restaurant and Voyager Curiosity Lounge Bar at the Somerville Hotel in St Aubin

Welcome to the once home of Mr J.W. Chapman. Serial-entrepreneur, philanthropist, explorer, bon-vivant, collector of curiosities, occasional rapscallion, persistent socialite, classic eccentric and original builder and proprietor of the hotel from 1881 to 1934.

Mr J.W. Chapman had a refined palate and expensive tastes with a penchant for fine food, fine wine, and fine company which drove him to import the best libations the world could offer.

He was a born entertainer who loved to have fun, hosting the naughty and noble from across the world with celebrations that would last long into the night and sometimes long into the following day.

Here, we pay homage to his love of feast and festivity and the splendiferous Victorian heritage of this magnificent building in celebrating an exciting time of travel, exploration, invention and all things British with the finest food and libations the world has to offer.

Whether for a drink, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, whether for a fun-filled evening or function for 50, ‘with undisturbed sea views for 40 miles’, Tides Restaurant and Voyager Curiosity Lounge Bar in St Aubin will be on your list of must things to do while in Jersey.

Enhanced Hygiene & Safety

In response to the risks posed by Covid-19, in addition to our already high standards of hygiene and cleanliness, we have introduced additional 'best practice +' procedures for the benefit of all.

Starting immediately, for all restaurant guests we have introduced:

  • Strict procedures and reduced capacity in all our dining spaces to minimise the number of guests being served at any given time, maximise physical distancing and reduce interaction between guests and our teams
  • A minimum of 2.5m between tables in all dining areas
  • Increased disinfection of 'high traffic' areas like tables, taps, door handles and telephones
  • Masks to be work by teams at all times
  • Contactless payment only.
  • Closure of our pools

Starting as soon as we are able to re-open the hotels, for all hotel residents we will introduce:

  • Restricted capacity to minimise the number of guests in house at any given time.
  • A minimum 'out of service' period for each bedroom of 3 days after checkout to ensure minimum risk of transmission
  • Elimination of room service 'tray charges' and an enhanced in room dining offering so you can enjoy our delicious food from the comfort of your room if you wish
  • Increased disinfection of 'high traffic' areas like tables, taps, door handles and telephones
  • A la Carte breakfast only to remove self-service buffets
